Delete your SocialMap account

You can delete your SocialMap account at any time, from inside the app, without contacting us first. The data that identifies you is erased; a limited set of safety records is kept in anonymized form. This page explains exactly which is which.

If you cannot open the app

If you lost the device, cannot sign in, or already uninstalled SocialMap, email support@socialmaphq.com with the subject "Delete my account" and tell us the phone number the account uses.

We will verify that the request really comes from the account holder before we delete anything — otherwise anyone could delete your account by knowing your number. We complete verified requests within 30 days and email you when it is done.

Deleted means erased from our production systems. Anonymized means we sever the link to you: your name, phone number, photos and profile are gone, and what remains cannot reasonably be traced back to you. Encrypted backups are rotated on a rolling cycle and any residual copy is overwritten within 90 days.

Why some records are kept

SocialMap puts strangers in the same physical place. Safety and abuse records — blocks, reports, and the decisions our moderators made — are retained in anonymized form after an account is deleted, where that is necessary for safety, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or the integrity of the service.

Concretely: it stops someone who was reported for harassment from wiping the record by deleting their account and signing up again with the same phone number. These records are stripped of your identity and are never used for any other purpose.

Chat messages you sent are kept in the conversation but detached from your identity, because deleting one side of a conversation would destroy the record for everyone else in that group — including anyone who needs it to report what happened.

Before you delete

  • If you host activities, consider cancelling them in the app first so participants get a clear reason rather than a disappearance.
  • Deleting your account does not automatically cancel anything you agreed to do in the real world.
  • You can create a new account later with the same phone number, but nothing from the old one comes back.
  • If your problem is notifications or a specific person, you can mute notifications or block that person instead — you do not have to delete your account.

For anything else, read the Privacy Policy or write to support@socialmaphq.com.
